Colonial Disc Golf Club

About Us

Colonial Disc Golf Club (CDGC) is one of the longest-standing and most active disc golf organizations in Coastal Virginia. The club traces its roots back to the fall of 1998, shortly after the peninsula’s first permanent disc golf course was installed at Newport News Park. Prior to that time, local players often traveled out of town to compete or improvised “object golf” layouts in area parks.

Many of those early players partnered with the Newport News Parks and Recreation Department to help design and install the course at Newport News Park. Shortly afterward, Newport News Disc Golf Club was formed to help maintain the course, organize leagues and tournaments, and promote the growth of disc golf throughout the region.

As the sport expanded, the club continued working with local park systems to bring additional courses to the Peninsula. In 2006, CDGC partnered with York County to help design and install the disc golf course at New Quarter Park, expanding opportunities for competitive play in the region. In 2014, the club worked with the City of Williamsburg to help bring and championship level course to Waller Mill Park. With the addition of courses beyond Newport News, the organization adopted the name Colonial Disc Golf Club to better represent the Historic Triangle and Peninsula communities it serves.

Today, Colonial Disc Golf Club continues to work closely with local parks departments to maintain and improve courses, promote responsible course use, and grow the sport at all skill levels. Club members volunteer countless hours each year performing course maintenance, assisting with improvements, and helping introduce new players to the game.

Colonial Disc Golf Club is an affiliate club member of the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) and hosts numerous events throughout the year including weekly leagues, charity fundraisers, and PDGA-sanctioned tournaments.

The club has also become known for its charitable impact in the community. Through the annual Ice Bowl tournament, CDGC has cumulatively raised more than $40,000 for the York County Food Closet to help fight food insecurity in the region. Through the annual Let Freedom Fly tournament, the club has raised over $10,000 for local veterans’ organizations, supporting those who have served our country.

For more than two decades, Colonial Disc Golf Club has welcomed thousands of players from across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region while continuing to promote disc golf, community service, and stewardship of local parks.
